Laptop on the fritz...

My big blue Dell laptop may be on its last legs. At least, when I attempted to turn it on several dozen times (and only succeeded hours later on attempt#severaldozen+1), I began to realize that a new laptop might have to be in my very near future.

So, do any readers have advice on a new laptop purchase? Or a tragic story about a laptop crashing at just the wrong time?

This post also serves to tell you that I may be light on blog entries if my laptop doesn't turn back on next time. I do still have baby laptop, but I only have so much patience for typing and photo uploading on something that tiny.

Anyway, I'm off to 台北 for the weekend, but after that, I may be spending my free time on 建國二路, the technology hotspot of Kaohsiung, as I go from shop to shop trying to bargain in Chinese for a laptop I want and can actually afford.

Study abroad in Dublin. Week before midterms. Midterms meaning 4 term papers. All of them 1/3 to 1/2 written, plus any research was pretty much saved on the harddrive as well. No back up.

I recomment a mac. but many people have strong anti-mac sentiments, so I understand that.

Call the Microson...the procurer of your phone...when did you get that computer? Remind you that buying there may limit your US warranty.
Thanks for the flowers!

mm, computer! i do love my mac, but they are definitely expensive (had i been spending my own money, definitely would've gotten something cheaper). I think dad has a mini IBM that was really cheap - you already have a mini though. We buy Lenovo for work, but they are almost as expensive as macs.

i've had to redo my OS a couple times, but i don't think that its ever been as tragic as briana's story. Freshman year was the worst, but I had finished or hadn't started all my papers.

Of course I'm going to push you toward a Macbook if you can swing it--not only is it more reliable than my old Dell, but it is prettier and allows me a new level of cultural elitism that I previously did not know.

But my sister has an HP and she's pretty happy with it--it's better than her previous Dell. Also, a govie in 2006 dropped her Sony laptop down the dorm steps and it was just fine. So that was pretty awesome.

I FEEL VERY STRONGLY ANTI-MAC, YOU ALL SHOULD KNOW THAT. And it's not just because my brother works at Microsoft, it's because in my experience, once someone starts using a Mac OS, they lose all ability to actually use a computer. Also Macs are incredibly expensive/snobby. Sorry folks :-)

But thanks for the opinions nonetheless!
